Ostriches feed unhatched eggs to their young.

Several female ostriches often lay their eggs in a single nest during the mating season.

They add a few each day until there is a total of two dozen. Some of these eggs hatch earlier than others.

To feed their hungry babies who cannot eat the rough food of the adult ostrich, the parent birds crack open the unhatched eggs and feed them to their youngsters.
